Cleveland Ohio Health Insurance – What the Carriers Don’t Want You to Know Part 1

Are you searching for Cleveland Ohio Health Insurance? Unsure of what carrier to choose? There are a few simple questions you should ask yourself before purchasing your coverage. These will help you in deciding which carrier will be best for you. First, I will give you the questions, then we will discuss why these are important to consider.

  1. Do you already have relationships formed with certain physicians (OB-Gyn, Pediatrician, Family Dr, Internist, Specialists, etc.)?
  2. Are any of your doctors associated with the Cleveland Clinic?
  3. Do you need access to the Cleveland Clinic?

Ok, now let’s delve more deeply into these issues and why they are important. If you already have relationships formed with physicians, and you want to keep those physicians, it is imperative that you find out what networks those doctors participate in. This can be accomplished in one of two ways. 1 – Call your doctors and ask them for a list of networks in which they participate.  2 – Contact an individual agent who has access to all the carriers in your state and ask them to search the networks for your list of doctors. Agents have the ability to go into each network to search for any kind of physician.

If your doctor is part of the Cleveland Clinic, he will NOT be in the Medical Mutual of Ohio network. Unfortunately, MMO does not have access to any part of the Cleveland Clinic, however, they do have access to the University Hospital System.

There are 4 main carriers you will find when searching for health insurance in Cleveland: Anthem BCBS, Medical Mutual of Ohio (MMO), Aetna, and United HealthCare (UHC). All of them, except for MMO, have access to both hospital systems (Cleveland Clinic and University). As stated above, MMO only has access to University Hospitals.
